NaNoWriMo

Hello everyone! I know I promised an entry something like last week, but I am lazy and slackerish! So, in an attempt to change that (at least as far as writing and updating this blog goes) I have enrolled in NaNoWriMo! For those of you who don't know what this is, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. It's a sort of contest, and the object is to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November. You basically just write whatever comes out of your head without worrying about if it's good or editing. That way you can kind of discipline yourself to be able to work with a quota and on a deadline, and you'll also have an entire novel written that you can either forget about or edit at your leisure. Pretty cool! What does this have to do with Mass Horror, you ask? Well of course, my novel is about zombies! What else would I write about? The first day is over and I have 2093 words. For anyone else who is doing it, my name on the official website is Vanilla.exe. Wish me luck everyone!

Halloween is Soon/Holy Cross Cemetery

Hello all,

Haha, I'm sorry about the crappy vlog post, I was trying to focus on not saying 'ummm' so much, and in the end I just turned out looking and sounding nervous. Wtf was up with that lisp? I don't have one irl, so that was weird! There will be betters ones in the future and I even have a few guest speakers, as well as some interviews in the works, so stay tuned to this blog and my youtube channel, MassHorrorVlog.

I'm sure most of you reading this have a favorite Holiday coming up, and it's probably Halloween! It's my favorite too guys xD Hopefully I'll do something cool and blog (or vlog!) worthy, but if not, don't fret. I will be going to a few cool places this month and video taping, so at least something good will come of the best season for horror, Autumn!

Aaanyway, today's blog is about Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, MA. I don't have any pictures right now but I'll edit this post with some later. So, I've been to this cemetery maaaany times, during the day, at night, summer, fall, winter, spring. I have never seen, heard, or felt anything odd here. However, according to The Shadowlands if you drive down the road between the two halves of the cemetery, you will see a woman in white. Supposedly, she is a bride who was killed there on her wedding night. If anyone has more information on this story, I would love to hear about it in the comments! I've brought it up to quite a few people, and no one I know that lives in Malden has ever heard this story. It would be interesting to know who submitted that to the website! As far as evidence goes, this seems like just another White Woman tale. Oh well, on to bigger and better things!

RHPS and R!TGO Shadowcasts

Sooo, since this is a blog about horror and Massachusetts, I would be doing you guys a dishonor by not posting these lists. They are: A list of Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow casts in MA and a list of Repo! The Genetic Opera shadow casts in MA. For those of you who don't know what a Shadow Cast is, it's basically a play about a movie that goes on in front of the movie, which is generally played at a cinema on a big screen :D My best friend and I used to go see RHPS almost weekly when we were 12-14ish. It's a lot of fun, whether you like the movies or not. Usually Audience Participation is allowed (and often encouraged), which makes the whole thing that much better. If you've never heard of either of these movies, stay tuned because eventually I'll be doing reviews. Until then, google is your friend! Without further ado:

Movie Review: Survival of the Dead

Well folks, I finally got to see George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead, which I've been very excited about for a long time. Mr. Romero is my favorite director and I always look forward to his movies. Truth be told, I was a little nervous that after making so many, he'd run out of ideas and this one would fall flat. But after watching it, I'm proud to say, he's still got it!

Survival of the Dead follows the story of the ex-soldiers from Diary of the Dead (the ones that robbed the main characters of that title). After watching their brothers in arms fall and then rise again one too many times, the 4 decide that they'll be better off on their own and desert. They come to meet a man who has a score to settle on a nearby island, and they all sail over under the premise of starting a zombie free life.

Near the beginning of the movie, there's a really bad exploding head effect, which lead me to think that we were in 'B' Movie territory (and we all know that modern b movies aren't as good as the oldies were.), but that was the last of the cheese. The rest of the gore checked out beautifully.

I was happy to see Athena Karkanis in a lead role. She was previously on a show called 'The Best Years' and she had a small role in Repo! The Genetic Opera. The Best Years was a flop, and I was hoping to see more of her acting in roles without the over-dramatic teen writing. Kudos to Mr. Romero for finding this obscure, talented young woman.

Overall, I am overjoyed to give Survival of the Dead 5/5 skulls. Keep 'em comin' George!

West Yarmouth, Shadow People

This is from a Gaian called 'The Silent Passer'

Here in West Yarmouth, up the road from my house is where my friend Mike lives. His ancestors were the makers of some of the best wine in the world, nothing to famous but enough that he has a rather big house. He takes the basement as his own room. The house is on the side of a hill so when you go behind it you can see it the basement from behind a glass sliding door. So when you're looking from this door/window you can see the lake at the bottom of the hill. Now he tells me not that the proporty is haunted but the lake itself. So instead of your average ghosts his house is homed to another supernatural creature, shadow people. (But there are also ghosts) (If you EVER heard any thing like this please post abot it : D ) Shadow people are like regular ghosts but A) Cant take form B) Cannot do harm C) Less powerful. Though they can be casted out without an exorsism. Crystals setup at a small square perimeter can keep them out of the area they are surronding. I dont know much about them but I know enough from stories and experiences. Once me and my best friend Kadeem were staying over to just hang. So eventually Mike falls asleep while we're still up playing COD. When down the hall we hear tapping. We paused to hear it was the shower and the shower and the faucet in the bathroom going on and off. We don't panic on account of already knowing about these types of things. In quest for attention the water starts to run more and more. We ignore it and I fall asleep 2 hours later. I wake up in the morning to listen to my friend kadeem tell me about how it got so loud that the shower door (Those glass ones that slide) kept opening and closing and that the door even slammed once. Though thats nothing compared to the stories I've heard about but wasn't there for.

So my friends River and Kadeem are staying over Mikes house. All is going good, video games, talking about girls, eating MANLY food, ect. But Kadeem always being the one ready for a haunting starts to hear a particular... nudging. It started to get loud, enough to tuge at the back of his mind to he looks to the right of himself the the sliding door. There he saw a ghost, one eye missing, the other one dangling out of its socket. The ghost was in a ripped up suit with gashes all over its body. Immediently he freezes and can't stop from staring. The ghost pushed its face up against the door, dragging its face towards the handle. The blood making it easier to slide across. It stopped in front of the handle and hit its hand on the door. Just in time Mike and River look over to witness the horror. All three stare in silent fear. Then instead of gripping the handle, it pulls back its head and SLAMS it's face into the door going through it. The figure faded away by the time the torso made it through.

I've heard my brother talking about seeing shadow people before. Interesting phenomenon.

Penny Road, Saugus, MA

I've heard it again and again, the story of an old man who lives at the end of Penny Rd. in Saugus. Supposedly he killed his entire family and got put on house arrest. He sits by his window with a shotgun, and if you go onto his property, he'll shoot you. Just hearing this tale, you can easily count it as a myth. We can probably safely presume, that if you kill your entire family, your sentence will be much worse than house arrest. Even if you were under said confinement, there's no way in hell they'd allow you a gun. The reality of the situation, is that there IS an old man that lives at the end of Penny Rd. If you set foot on his property, an alarm will sound and you'll likely be arrested for trespassing. So much for that.

There's another story about Penny Rd. This one perhaps a bit more believable than the first, depending on your belief system. There was a little boy killed by a car on Penny Rd. It is said that if you drive by at night, you'll see him running through the trees, or standing on the road. I've driven here many a time at night, and never have I seen any such boy. I also haven't been able to uncover any news stories about a boy being killed there. If you have any information, feel free to post it in the comments!

Welcome Horror Fans!

Hello and welcome to Mass Horror! I hope to turn this blog into a comprehensive guide to Horror in Massachusetts. Whether it be hauntings, aliens, or cryptids, I want to know about it and I want to share it with you. I figured a blog would be the best way to achieve this goal.

I'm going to start off this blog by saying, if you know anything, tips, stories, anything dealing with the paranormal, supernatural, occult, or horror in MA, please let me know and I'll try my best to post about it!

My biggest goal is to turn this into a combination written/video blog. I have a video camera (or two) and I'd love to be able to show you these places and things as well as writing about them. The future is a dark and scary place
